WE ARE DEVELOPING A NEW COLLECTIVE CONCEPT OF FEELING THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, THE HUMAN INTERACTION AND THE METAVERSE

Experience

We propose a collective interaction as a new opportunity for a future in community

Leading innovation in digital Art, with immersive, interactive and co-creative projects, needs to have a vision how to go from web2 to web3 increasing experimentation, extended experience solutions based in the artistic research and promoting mainly collaborative and co-creative experiences for making more strong our togetherness and the sense of community.

This vision is aligned with New European Bauhaus objective of togetherness using creativity and EIT Culture and Creative desire of generating new perspectives and forms of collaboration.

Concept

Common-AI-Verse is defined as a sensory journey for the collective construction, in collaboration with different intelligent agents, of a common space in the Metaverse.

Through interaction with the space and the different artificial intelligences (organised by elements that compose them in each of the stages), the participating public constructs nodes of knowledge that form part of a global map that unfolds tridimensionally.

In this way, the project aims to break down the barriers of individuality in the construction of the technologies of the future, appealing to collective construction as a tool of basic intelligence to aboard new ones.

On October 17th  2023 was the opening at Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) of the exhibition «Artificial Intelligence» where Espronceda – Institute of Art and Culture was showing an ambitious project: Common-AI-verse that was a commission of CCCB to Espronceda, who was the producer with the support of Generalitat de Catalunya-Departament de Cultura. This digital art installation is not only an amazing interactive experience with creative AI software but also give to the participants a «take away», a wonderful Digital Object that was co-created by the performance of the participants. A group of three people are invited in a shiny environment, laser lights and reflecting surfaces, to give a chance to the AI to learn about their emotions and reacting physically with dynamics forms done by laser movements and emitting sounds that are following the connection between the group of people and the AI using  a LED screen like interface of communication.  Being co-creation and community the main goal of this project, it is a first step of the collaboration of a team of digital artists: Solimán López, Mohsen Hazrati , Esen Ku and Kris Pilcher with the scientific/ creative software support of the IA experts from IIIA-CSIC: Jordi Colomer, Lissette Lemus, Joan Jené, and Cristian Cozar, and other professionals in computing, visual and sound creation. Considering this project a mid-term ambition, it is becoming a great journey for Espronceda team: Dr. Holger Sprengel, Marc Galvez and, the curator of the project, Alejandro Martín.

Thinking now about new steps, evolutions and places to show it, make sense for the initial effort done by the Institution. More informations coming soon at this website.

Technologies

Artificial intelligence, humans and metaverse

The Common-AI-Verse installation combines, on the one hand, the latest advances in neural networks that allow an artificial entity to perceive human figures and their movement, and, on the other, statistical and AI-based techniques symbolic (such as fuzzy sets) that give him the ability to interpret this perception in terms of basic emotions and from a group perspective. The interpretation of movements is done using a multi-recommendator approach where several specialized agents analyze the data from different perspectives (amplitude, speed and amount of movement, proximity of individuals, etc.) to reach a final consensus on the emotions detected. In a first phase, the system learns how the group expresses these emotions through movement and then uses this knowledge in a second phase (where individuals can express themselves freely) to empathize with this same group through light and sound.
